With its diverse range of shops, cafés and restaurants, Kiel's longest covered shopping street is a popular destination for shopaholics and city travellers. This is where tradition meets modernity, small boutiques meet specialist shops. Once served by tram line 4, Holtenauer Straße is still well served by public transport today. With its history, the street invites you to stroll and linger. Here you will find a mosaic of culture, gastronomy, shopping, working and living.

As a special district centre, Holtenauer Straße comprises around 150 retail businesses with a very high proportion of individual, owner-managed shops as well as various catering and cultural businesses (art house cinemas, theatres, galleries) and a large number of service providers.
The voluntary association "die Holtenauer e.V." aims to sustainably increase the attractiveness of the Holtenauer Strasse neighbourhood as a whole. This is promoted in particular by increasing the quality of life in the street, making the Holtenauer experience more attractive and organising joint events, increasing communication between the stakeholders and initiating measures to protect the environment.

Concept study
"Digitalisation of retail and gastronomy in the city centre and Holtenauer Strasse"
Strengthening the local economy of the city centre and Holtenauer Strasse with the right tools. As part of the project "Impulses for an attractive centre on the Kiel Fjord", a concept study was created that includes an empirical survey of the degree of digitalisation of the local economy and concrete recommendations for action that should significantly increase visibility on the Internet and improve the digital quality of stay.

Development goals and need for action
Not in the city centre but close to the centre, Holtenauer Straße is a highlight of a visit to Kiel. Kiel-Marketing e.V. and Holtenauer e.V. are investing in the cooperation for the special district centre (BSTZ) Holtenauer Straße.
The structure of Kiel-Marketing as the city and city management of the state capital Kiel is used to strengthen neighbourhood management for the district, promote the digitalisation of the local economy and achieve mutual synergy effects. Holtenau and Kiel-Marketing see this as a building block for the successful implementation of the neighbourhood-related goals from the 2020 retail and centre concept (EZK) and the federal funding programme "Sustainable city centres and centres" (ZIZ).
On this occasion, a profiling concept was developed to ensure that Kiel's special neighbourhood remains well positioned in the future. To this end, the neighbourhood community was strengthened in its cooperation and highlights were used to make it more attractive.
