The Ocean Race Europe will start in Kiel in August 2025. What an incredible event – not only for all sailing enthusiasts in Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein, but also throughout Germany and internationally. The fly-by in Kiel in June 2023 with over 120,000 visitors on the Kiel Fjord showed just how great this enthusiasm is. But what is it about this race that gets us all so excited? The power of this high-performance race? This credible combination of sailing and marine conservation?

It's both – and it's much more than that.

It's the many stories behind this mega story. From lack of sleep to astronaut food, from bunk to trophy and from jumping dolphins in the evening sun to mast breakage on the open sea. From the proximity to the sea, the taste of sea spray and sea salt, to the scientists who make a valuable contribution to climate change research with the data collected on board the high-tech yachts. It's all about enthusiasm. Be it on board, be it in the institutes, be it here on the Kiel Fjord.
