In Pries-Friedrichsort, a new association of committed tradespeople has been founded under the name LeuchtturmQuartier. The aim of this initiative is to make the diverse shopping opportunities, restaurants, services and other businesses in the district more visible and actively promote them.
The LeuchtturmQuartier aims to show how lively and diverse Pries-Friedrichsort is - both externally, to inspire guests and customers, and internally, to promote dialogue and a joint presence. Whether dealing with the city or the local council: as a community, the voice is stronger and more effective.
A dedicated website is already being planned and will soon showcase everything that Pries-Friedrichsort has to offer.

Welcome to the Pries-Friedrichsort neighbourhood management team!
In the heart of the district, north of the canal, lies the centre with its shopping street. It comprises around 90 businesses as well as cultural and leisure facilities. Of these, 56% are owner-managed businesses and 28% are branches from the catering, service and retail sectors. The remaining 16% are made up of municipal facilities and associations.
Kiel-Marketing and the neighbourhood management team are working in this district centre to revitalise it and make the heart of Pries-Friedrichsort beat faster again. The area of activity is shown in the diagram below. In order to revitalise the centre and make it more attractive, the neighbourhood management is concentrating on filling vacant spaces with life again, establishing a neighbourhood community for sustainable cooperation and developing a long-term profiling strategy that will make the neighbourhood and thus the entire district fit for the future.
On Sunday 19 October, Kiel was connected in a special way by the " Bunte Linie" cultural project: The free ferry service with the "Lamara " brought the neighbourhoods of Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf and Pries-Friedrichsort closer together - not just geographically, but also culturally and on a human level.
The "Lamara" travelled between the jetties and turned into a floating meeting point. On board, guests were treated to information about the district libraries, hands-on activities and a maritime experience with Neptune, which delighted young and old alike.
There was also plenty on offer on land: Guided tours of the neighbourhoods provided exciting insights into the past and present of the districts. Around the media dome and the computer museum, interactive activities invited visitors to marvel and join in. The day was rounded off with an atmospheric concert at the Leuchtturm cultural centre.
The "colourful line" impressively demonstrated how culture can build bridges - across the water and right into the heart of the city districts.
On Sunday, 7 September 2025, the centre of Pries-Friedrichsort was transformed into a lively festival mile: Under the motto "From Pries-Friedrichsort for Pries-Friedrichsort", the Leuchtturmfest 25 invited people to join in the celebrations from 10 am to 8 pm - with free admission for everyone.
The colourful programme delighted visitors of all ages: the fun Bambini run kicked things off, followed by rousing live music on the Antennenfeld Festival stage, which kept the party going all day long. Over 20 information and hands-on stands invited visitors to discover, try out and exchange ideas - from local initiatives to creative activities for young and old.
A parked-up pavement has been transformed into a lively meeting place! The square is secured by bollards and was designed together with the youth work of the Kompass parish and youth centres. With seating and the bouncy game "Heaven and Hell", it now invites you to linger - whether after church, at the Hasch lunch table or with a book by Almut Schmidt.
Results report: Here you will find the results of the participation in the Pries-Friedrichsort district centre as part of the profiling process. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and specific project ideas are highlighted and invite you to take a fresh look at the centre and shape its future.
The first "mini Christmas market" on Leuchtturmplatz was a complete success and created a cosy atmosphere - despite the typical Kiel drizzle. Many visitors from Pries-Friedrichsort enjoyed hot punch, crêpes and bratwurst and discovered the wide range of products on sale at the stalls. We hope that this charming market can take place again next year!
The Lighthouse Festival '24 in Pries-Friedrichsort offered a varied programme for young and old, including a stage programme, a children's playground with a bouncy castle and bungee trampoline as well as numerous hands-on and cultural activities. Culinary delights from local suppliers and a flea market rounded off the festival. The joint organisation by residents and tradespeople was particularly special. More committed helpers are needed for future festivals; anyone interested can contact m.andres (at) kiel-marketing.de.
In an afternoon of bright sunshine, volunteers started to get the lighthouse square back in shape for the summer. Weeds were weeded, flower pots cleaned and rearranged, flowers planted and benches cleaned. To ensure that the lighthouse square looks tidy again, this is not the only action. There will be another opportunity at the end of May - you are cordially invited to join in! The exact date will follow.
New Christmas lights in the district centre: On the initiative of the tradespeople, new lighting made from recycled plastic was installed this year, which bathes the entire centre in a festive glow. Children from Fritz-Reuter-Schule and Lernwerft decorated the Christmas tree on Leuchtturmplatz with decorations they had made themselves. A beautiful lantern procession took place for the inauguration, which ended with a cosy punch-drinking session on the square.
The lighthouse festival in Kiel Pries-Friedrichsort was a complete success! With thousands of visitors, great weather and a varied programme, the event was well attended and popular. Traders were able to showcase their products and guests enjoyed cool drinks and local music. The festival strengthened the community in the neighbourhood and was well received by the residents. Overall, the festival was a great success and showed the importance of such events for cohesion in the neighbourhood. Many thanks to all participants and guests!
Together with tradespeople and the crew from Kiel-Marketing, the shopping street in Pries-Friedrichsort was greened with colourful plants on 28 April 2023. The aim is to revitalise the district, improve the quality of life and beautify the street. Businesses will sponsor flower tubs and ensure uniform planting throughout the summer season.
